In Brazil, 99-year-old veteran of the Second world war recovered from COVID-19

A veteran of world war II at the age of 99 years old became the oldest person in Brazil, who recovered from coronavirus, reports channel G1 with reference to the country's Ministry of health.

Hernando Ermelindo Piveta was admitted to the hospital in Brasilia last Monday with a confirmed diagnosis of the coronavirus, on Tuesday the 14th of April he was discharged.
The veteran still has to wait for the results of the control test for the virus, however doctors say that he is already fully recovered.
Originally Piveta was treated at home, but because of the persistent cough was taken to the hospital.

According to doctors, because of fears of complications and advanced age, an elderly patient is first put in the ICU, but in the end he didn't need the connection ventilator, he could breathe on his own.

The hospital staff applause accompanied the veteran at discharge.

Hernando Ermelindo Piveta served in the Brazilian expeditionary force who took part in the fighting in the Mediterranean theater of operations during world war II. Last year Piveta he received a commemorative medal from the Ministry of defence of the country.
